Here are the bills I am sponsoring this session. There is a possibility of one or two more, but these are the current ones.
HB57—Towing Signage Revisions. Requires private property owners who utilize tow enforcement on their properties to post warning signs at the entrance of their properties and make it clear what the parking rules within the parking lot are. Brings continuity to signage throughout the state and will hopefully lower the number of cars being towed.
HB73–Interference with Public Servants Amendments. This bill clarifies the crimes of interference with public servants and the service of process. Makes it a class A misdemeanor to interfere with the service of process issued by a court.
HB120–Towing Fee Amendments. This is a technical change to a bill I did last year. It allows special service districts who provide dispatch services (there is only one in Utah) to charge a fee to towing companies they dispatch and allows towers to pass the fee on to their customers.
HB146–Driver License Suspension Amendments. Stops the practice of suspending someone’s drivers license who does not appear or who does not pay their court fines, except for moving violations. It does not prevent courts from issuing warrants or eliminates their fees.
HB149–Prohibition on Certain Restrictions on Firearms. This bill allows those who rent/lease property and who have virtually sole control of the property to have firearms for all legal purposes just as a normal property owner can. (Still working on this one to make sure it doesn’t infringe on property rights.)
HB180—Emissions Inspection Amendments. Removes the requirement for electric vehicles to obtain an emissions inspection.
Credit Reporting Notification Amendments. This bill will allow financial institutions to use email as a form of communication regarding credit notifications. The law currently allows other forms, but not email and can only be used if the person opted in for email communications.
Firearm Preemption Amendments. Makes clarifications to the law that prevents municipalities, cities, towns, and counties from creating firearm-related laws ordinances that conflict with state law. It makes it clear, the state has the authority only to make such laws.
Firearm Purchase Limitations. This law will allow an individual to voluntarily place themselves on the firearm do not buy list. This allows people in crisis or who may have mental issues they are dealing with and who for safety reasons want to prevent themselves for a time from purchasing firearms to be declined at a firearm retailer. It does not criminalize them; they can remove themselves from the list after a short period of time and will eventually automatically remove them from the list. This is a voluntary safety option for individuals.
Firearm Safe Harbor Amendments. This makes small technical updates to the bill I passed last year to make it clearer and gives law enforcement the option to pick up firearms or safekeeping only at the request of the adults in the home.
Wildlife Tagging Amendments. This will clarify one portion of the tagging law for hunters. It will allow hunters to tag required fowl to be tagged immediately following retrieval. Currently, the law states the downed animal must be tagged at the site before it is moved, which works for large game. It is more difficult for fowl when a dog may go and retrieve the game, or if the hunter needs to wade out into water making it difficult to tag and notch the tag. This change allows for those situations.

Election Process Amendments – (Senator McCay) Adds a convention only option in SB54 allowing parties to choose their route. It also adds a fourth option for unaffiliated to provide a nominee to the general election ballot without a party affiliation.
